Total Woman Portraits for Jessica – Houston Katy Photographer for Women

Total Woman Portraits for Jessica – Houston Katy Photographer for Women

THIS post is about my copper-head soul sister, Jessica, and her Total Woman Portrait session.

There’s a special sisterhood that we redheaded women share.  It can’t be described, but if you are one of us, you know it well.  You might catch a glimpse of it in our eyes as we give each other a silent high-five at  the grocery store. We connect because we understand. We know sunburns, and freckles, unruly curls. People always ask us if  our hair color is natural. Our perfume of choice is SPF 30-plus.  If two of us are in a room at the same time someone will inevitably ask if we are related.  In a sense, we are because we truly know how hard it is to be so blinkin’ awesome.  I LOVE my redheaded sistah’s and  when I’m fortunate enough to have one walk through my doors, good stuff is bound to happen.

Just a phone-pic selfie: Here we are hanging out on my front porch with my highly prized Redhead Barbie! – She looks just like us, doesn’t she?

Because women are so fascinating and multi-dimensional, I developed these Total Woman sessions to capture many different facets of an individual.   We are more than just a pretty face. We are powerful. We are fun. We are joyful. We are intelligent. We are mysterious. We are strong. We are sexy. We are compassionate.  And through it all, we are BEAUTIFUL — but sometimes we forget that part.    Total Woman sessions bring a woman from the BOARDROOM to the BOUDOIR and capture that special beauty forever.  These sessions are good for a woman’s soul.   The images we create also warm the hearts of  our husbands and children, whether they are still young or have already grown up.

Jessica is one amazing woman.  She’s a cross-fit trainer. She’s a wife and the mother of five fantastic sons. That’s just one more reason to adore her.  Red Heads who can raise five sons could rule the world if we wanted to.

It was beyond fun working with her to create these heirloom images.

Can you imagine her sharing these  with her grandchildren in the year 2046?   Won’t they love this? What a TREASURE!

What would you give to have lovely photographs of your mother at the age that you are now?

And … as we often do after these sessions, we met up at the park  with the loves of her life,  her husband and boys –

because — well because we just HAD TO create a portrait of the family on the same day  we put together Jessica’s heirloom collection!

We only had about 10 minutes before the skies opened up and rain started pouring, but that was enough.

These images have been translated to a canvas collection for their beautiful home.

These kids will grow up, but this precious moment in their lives has been frozen in time and they will cherish it — because they will always be able to see it.

Flavia’s Flavors – Houston Small Business Photographer

Flavia’s Flavors – Houston Small Business Photographer

Meet Flavia,  you’re going to love what she’s been  cooking up for you.Flavia 5

Some readers may be familiar with the blog she began writing back in 2009.   Flavia’s Flavors   was chock full of her yummy cooking and pretty pictures– and let me tell you, Flavia knows her way around the kitchen.

Throughout those years of writing and traveling, Flavia kept coming back to her true passion, the Italian food that she grew up with.  So after much soul searching and research to develop a style that is truly her own, she took the last few months to completely re-brand and re-style the blog.  She took down all of her old recipes and kitchen secrets and has started fresh with a bold crisp clean style and a razor-sharp focus on purely Italian cuisine.

In the new blog, we’ll dive deep  into her Italian Kitchen and  cuisine.  We’ll be alongside Flavia as she is — cooking — writing — and soon TEACHING cooking classes in her GORGEOUS kitchen or in yours.   Her  hands-on classes will include specific regional home-style recipes and techniques  as well as classic traditional favorites.  YUM!  I can hardly wait to gather up a few of my close friends for a Flavia’s Flavors class.

When she told me about her rebranding plan and her classes, I thought it was a great idea, and couldn’t wait to see her thrive. THEN . . .she asked me to photograph her so that she would have fresh bright images to populate her blog.  Ummmm yes thank you.  I was THRILLED.  We spent a delightful  morning together  creating a few bright and cheery portraits — and THEN she started chopping tomatoes, garlic, and basil to create a tray of bruschetta toast.

I believe I INHALED more than my share.  Soooo very very delicioso!

Check out HER post where she talks about our shoot HERE!

I first met Flavia a couple of years ago along with several AMAZING bloggers and social media masterminds who live in the Katy area, and I liked her from the beginning.  What’s not to like?  She is gorgeous, poised, sweet, kind, talented  and oh so very nice.

Once when I needed some help  figuring out how to integrate my own social media workflow, Flavia was the one who invited me to sit down with her and learn how she does it. Seriously saved my sanity — or what little there was left of it.

Thank you, Flavia, for allowing me into your beautiful Italian home. I can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store for us as this blog and class takes off.  Please count me among your biggest fans.

Be sure to check out her blog and subscribe to it.  You’ll find her at www.flaviasflavors.com

Special Moment – Lost Tooth- Katy Houston Photographer

When Little Miss S (and no, S doesn’t stand for SASS) lost her first tooth, her mom rushed her right over to my studio for an impromptu  photo shoot to commemorate the occasion.8F9A9715

Teeth or none, this gal is such a HAM!  Check out all of these goof-ball expression.

Back when I was a kid, the Tooth Fairy would deliver exactly 41 cents for a tooth.  Yep.. ONE EACH… a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.

I never managed to convince my mother that we were getting short changed at our house on Shell Street in Midland Texas.  Even back in THE DAY….  Even in the OLDEN DAYS…  other kids in the old hometown earned at least a dollar for each pearly white.  Some even bragged of $5 bills.

Since this was Miss S’ s first lost tooth, she hadn’t t had time to establish a market value yet, but I’ll bet it was more than 41 cents….

Goodness … with a smile like this,  she will probably be able to fund her college education by the time she gets down to her wisdom teeth.

Anything that happens TODAY makes TODAY a SPECIAL DAY – and it’s the little stuff that you’ll remember years from now, especially if you’ve got great photographs to jog your memory.

Don’t forget to commemorate those special occasions!

Do it yourself, or let me help.

You’ll be glad you did.

Sisters of the Heart – Houston Katy Photographer for Women and Daughters

“How many slams in an old screen door? Depends how loud you shut it.

How many slices in a bread? Depends how thin you cut it.

How much good inside a day? Depends how good you live ‘em.

How much love inside a friend? Depends how much you give ‘em.”  – Shel Silverstein

Kathe and Shelly have been best friends just about forever.  And talk about coincidence, they grew up in my old hometown of Midland, Texas but I never knew either of them until Kathe moved to Houston.  We met in Bible Study and bonded over our Midland roots and Kathe’s wonderfully wise and witty take on life in general.

These two amazing ladies take the time to get together several times a year, despite the eight hours of Texas Highway stretching between their homes — AND they’ve created a tradition of celebrating their daughters’ tenth birthdays BIG TIME.  So, when Shelly’s youngest girls who happen to be twins were turning 10, Kathe decided that a spa day followed by a special portrait session would be a great way to cap off their week in Houston.

What a special time in life.  K &  K are definitely  not little girls anymore, but they’re not quite teens  yet either.  The lingering sweet innocence of childhood still fills their souls, but if you look deep into those eyes you’ll see the gentle unfolding of strong and wise young women.

We focused most of our session on the birthday girls, but would have been amiss if we didn’t capture this precious sweet relationship that weaves its way through two generations

–  mothers, daughters, sisters, friends.

Oh what a treasure!  I’m so glad that I got to be a part of their celebration.

Engaged! Congratulations to GT and Rachel – Katy Houston Wedding Engagement Photographer

Just last night GT surprised Rachel with a Biblical foot-washing… and while he was down on his knees he had a very special question to ask her.

She said yes.

I am Soooo happy for this sweet young couple.  Can’t wait to witness the blessing that God has in store for them in the days and years ahead.

Horse and Rider – Personality Photography Houston, Katy, Midland

It’s been a while since this lifestyle session took place, but since the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo is in town,it seems like this is an appropriate time to share a few images from a dusty early morning in West Texas .

I’ve known John since we were both scrawny little fourth graders — and that was more than just a few years ago.

We totally drifted into separate worlds  as life and families came along,  but became reacquainted through Facebook  a few years ago.  Not only is he a skilled horseman, but he’s also become very thoughtful and talented writer.

When I was back in Midland a while back, I had an opportunity to ride out to his property which he calls Rancho Notso Grande.  (GOTTA love that name) so I could photograph him working and caring for his magnificent animals.

What a treat!
